Post Spambots, lack of posts
Good lord it's been forever since I last posted anything. Well it's been forever since anyone's posted anything really... any one except bots that is.

I know that everyone has been busy, TA I saw you on /d/ a few weeks back and I see Observer's occation posts there but I don't make much of an appearance anymore and I don't know WHAT happened to FSM.

In the mean time the site seems to have turned into bot bait. I'd suggest using a CAPTCHA tool or something similar for registration.

And in the mean time of that, summer's comming up. If we're going to keep doing anything with this site that would be the time to do it. It'd be a good time to get the word out and to write a few new pieces to spark outside interest. Other than that there isn't much to do.

What are you talking about? There are no spambots on this forum.

I know because I just spent 10 minutes deleting the latest batch.

...*cough*

All right. The thing is, the forum was already using a captcha for registration. That didn't seem to be helping, though, possibly because the particular captcha utility wasn't a very good one. So, I just set the forum to use reCAPTCHA, the same captcha that 4chan uses...With any luck, that will cut down on the spam registrations.

Anyway, I keep saying I'll write more, but it always seems like other stuff in my life is more important...I think part of it is, when I was writing on 4chan, it was cool because people would reply saying "MOAR!". So it was really encouraging to get all that instant feedback. But then the mods were all "lolspam" and deleted my threads, so I can't do that anymore...hmmm. HMMM.

Well, Monday and Tuesday are probably not that good for me this week, but by Wednesday I WILL write something. :P

So, yeah. Wednesday wasn't very good either. I PLANNED to write something, but all my plans for today didn't pan out.

So, the bad news is that the new captcha doesn't seem to have affected the spambots too much. (Which is odd, because I tried it on a couple other forums I administrate and it really cut down the number of spambots. Hmmm...) The good news is that I wrote a little Greasemonkey script to help me ban bots faster.

We'll see what tomorrow will bring.

You could do this:

Start a tentacle thread and a few posts into it include a part from a story you've written or will write and say that you'd post the rest but it is or will be on this site and that people are welcome to come here to see it so that the 4chan mods don't get buttfrustraited over "omgwalloftextyouarespamtroll" and ban you. It might also help to cater to other crowds by mentioning the site in a bondage thread or something.

We've got to get the word out if we want more traffic.

Hmmm. Interesting! The one problem, however, is that you're not supposed to advertise your site on 4chan...that's against the 4chan rules. The trick is navigating the fine line between mentioning and advertising...

yep. I'd do it along the lines of

>open a tentacle thread
>post about 15 or so pictures
>post another pic + part of story
>someone says "moar"
>post another pic and say "well I'd post the rest of it but the mods might delete the thread but I have a site where I keep my stuff. It's tentaclespecialist dot com . Other authors are there too along with stuff they wrote, anyone's free to contribute and comment on the stories, in fact many of the authors along with myself encourage suggestions and requests. Let me know what you think." or something along those lines.

On the topic of spambots; in order to more quickly get rid of them, I've been deleting everyone who has registered after a certain time. I don't think I've deleted any legitimate users, and the reason I believe this is because everyone I've deleted has either 1) posted spam or 2) not posted anything at all.

The point is, if you come to this forum and don't want to be deleted, please post a note introducing yourself...or a comment on one of the stories...or else you might be deleted along with all the illegitimate posters. ;)

I felt this topic belonged in the Administrative forum. I also edited the title.

I am not a spam bot. I'm just a lurker, whose had many a happy fap here and on the /d/ threads. I guess i'll make myself useful and post 'MOAR' on any thread i see that has new post.
